Dead in Christ
“I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God. 3 Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.” Revelation 3:1-3 (NLT)
Growing up as a preacher’s kid, I would like to say I was given the opportunity to fellowship with many churches throughout the years. As a child, you do not fully understand the dynamics of church service. I will fully explain that statement later in blog post. All you know is that you are there because your parents made you go. You notice some people are crying and holding their hands in the air. There are some that are kneeling, others running around the church, and others that may not be showing any reaction at all to what is going on. When you think of church services that you may have attended before what did you see? How does your spirit man respond during church service?
In the paragraph above, I made the statement of not fully understanding the dynamics of church service, but not in the way you may think. There are some that have an early spiritual connection with God whereas with others, it may not happen until adulthood. Let me say this before continuing. It does not matter if you were a child or an adult when it happened as long as you have a connection now. In the verses above, God is telling the people of the church that they appear to be alive spiritually, but he knows and sees that they are dead. He wants them to remember how it was when they first came to Christ. God wants us to reconnect with him, remember his word, and hold on to it.
We have all at one point fallen away from God. We have all at some point allowed life to become so much bigger than Him. It is okay. I have done it as well. When you worship, God is not looking at what others see when you worship. He is looking at the posture of your heart.
Allow your spirit to be revived in him. Remember who God was and still is in your life. He loves you!
