Clearing the Fog of Life
“We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!” 1 Corinthians 13:12 (MSG)
Driving in the fog can be hard whether it is a light or heavy fog. We often turn on our fog lights, while driving slowly, to make sure we do not hit anyone. There are others that drive fast no matter what the weather condition is. They do not realize how the fog can be detrimental to them. If they cannot see what is front of them, how can they determine whether they need to slow down, stop, or switch lanes to keep from hitting someone. How many of you have allowed the fog of life to keep causing accidents in your life?
What can be fogs in your life? I am so glad you asked. Fog can come in the forms of worry, anxiety, fear, temptation, envy, jealousy, etc. All these things can cause us not to see the goodness of Jesus. We cannot recognize the good things because we are so focused on what is not happening. Hebrews 11:1-2 (MSG) says, “The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It is our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.” These fogs can cause us to make decisions that are detrimental to our life. When this happens, we want to call on God when we should have patiently waited on Him before we made the decision. Please know that we must suffer the consequences of our actions.
We have all allowed the fogs of life to get us. We would not be human if we did not. As I always say, God is faithful. He will help us get through. Hebrews 10:23 (NLT) says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” He can clear the fog that is life, but we must trust and have faith in the process.
God knows, and he prepares for our mess ups. Seek him even during your mess. He hears your prayers. As it states in the passage above, he will clear the fog, and the sun will shine bright. You will see just as clearly as God does for your life.
