Simple Requirements of God
“But I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let’s be going.” Psalm 14:31 (NLT)
In this passage of scripture, I will say that Jesus was possibly on his way to the garden of Gethsemane. Prior to leaving, he wanted to leave words of encouragement to his disciples to let them know that although he was leaving, God was sending someone back for them. Verse 31 as mentioned above, touched something within me. Jesus knew what was required of him. He did not complain, and because of his unfailing love for God, carried out the purpose for His life. Imagine knowing that you are going to die for people who will not even accept you, yet you do it anyway. Talk about doing what is required. I don’t even know if I would have gone through with it. Just being honest. How many of us know what is required, yet fail to do it on a daily basis?
When I talk about what is required of you, I am not just talking about the spiritual realm. Let us talk about the earthly realm first. Your employer states you have to be at work at 8 am. You may get there at 8:30 am. Your bills are due on the 1st and 15th of the month. You take your whole paycheck to the casino, lose it, and have to borrow money just to get by. Please do not get me wrong, no judgment. I am talking about being responsible and disciplined. Let us make it a little more personal. How about just keeping your word? If you say you are going to do something, do it. If you cannot, let it be known.
This blog is not a bashing session. If God cannot trust you with earthly things, how can He trust you with kingdom things? Leading unbelievers to Christ is not for the faint of heart. It requires you to lead by example. Am I saying don’t live your life in the midst? Of course not. I love to have a glass of Hennessy and Apple Juice after a long day. I love to go dancing sometimes. Not as much anymore because my bones snapple, crack, and pop when I just stand up. LOL! I love to go out and listen to live music. Your life should not stop, but it should also show God in it as well.
You may not know your purpose here on earth. That is alright. You do know what is right though. I am going to share Matthew 25:31-40 (NLT) with you.
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!‘”
It is not hard to do what is required of you, you have to have a willing heart and spirit. No more no less. Jesus did what was required of him so that you could benefit from being released from the law to God’s grace and mercy. So why not do what is required of you!
