God’s Sheep
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley,I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalm 23 (NLT)
This passage of scripture is a very familiar one. I was taught this when I was a child. I still can recite it verbatim in King James Version now as an adult. How many of you acknowledge the Lord as your shepherd? The one who continually guides and protects you through this thing called life?
David was a shepherd of sheep before he became a king. David correlates this passage of scripture of him tending sheep with how God tends to us. We are God’s sheep and he is our shepherd. God makes sure that in this life he leads and guides us in the direction that will protect us from what can happen.
Sometimes we don’t feel like God is tending to us when we go through trials and tribulations. In verse 4, it says even in the darkest valley, God is close beside us. Let’s bring it closer to home. Think of yourself as the shepherd to your children whom we will call your sheep. We as parents no matter how old they are will try to protect and guide them. That is what God does for us.
When was the last time you asked God to guide and protect you? He wants to do it. Allow him.
