Jesus – Our Fallback Guy
“A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” John 2:10 (NLT)
I love reading the bible. God teaches us his word through parables in some instances. I was reading John 2 which tells of God’s first miracle. He was attending a wedding along with his mother, Mary, and his brothers. During the festivities, the host ran out of wine. Mary asked Jesus to do something. Jesus turned water into wine. When the host taste it, the verse above was his response. If you do not know the story, I encourage you to read it.
I know the title and verse may not make sense but stay with me. In this scenario, the host thought the wine he served before running out was the best. Indeed, it was not based on his response above. We have lost things. Things have been taken away from us. At that time, we felt like it was the best thing we could ever have. Indeed, it is not. Sebrena, how does that relate to anything? I am so glad you asked. We often go every route in trying to make something work instead of going to Jesus the first time. We use him as our last resort.
God does not want to be last in anything that we do. He wants to be included from the beginning. Prime example: one of our children purchases a car. The car has a high interest rate and is not in the best condition. They tell us after the fact. As a parent, some of come in and save the day, i.e., fix the situation. That is how we do Jesus. We use him as our fallback guy. I am guilty as well.
God wants to help us in every aspect of our lives. Go to him in prayer and meditation. Ask him what he thinks you should do. He loves to hear from us.
