You’ve Got Prayer
One of my favorite movies of all times is “You’ve Got Mail” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It talks about how Joe Fox and Kathleen Kelly have been sending each other messages over the Internet through this app called “You’ve Got Mail.” This movie was made in 1998, so you know it was not the same as the dating apps are now. Unbeknownst to them, they meet as professional rivals. They both have bookstores—Fox Books (Joe Fox) and The Shop Around the Corner (Kathleen Kelly). During all their exchanges, they never know who each other are because real names are not given on the app. Fast forward, Kathleen loses her bookstore. Joe finds out who she is. The rest is history. Watch the movie for drama, laughter, and comedy.
Where am I going with this? I’m glad you asked.
Our communication to God is the same. The only difference is that He knows who you are. Every time you send a prayer up, He gets it on His “Prayer App”. I thought the prayer app was a cute touch. I digress. He knows what you are believing for.
The struggle comes in the waiting. Sometimes it feels like God hasn’t heard your prayers. Life keeps moving, challenges stay, and answers don’t come on our timeline. That’s the tension we all face as believers.
Psalm 34:17 reminds us, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.” Just like Joe and Kathleen exchanged messages without knowing each other, our prayers are sent up, sometimes unseen, but God knows exactly who we are and what we need. His answer is always “yes and amen,” even if it isn’t immediate.
