Don’t Forget From Whence You Came
“Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” Romans 12:3 (NLT)
Good Morning. I was trying to write a new blog post this morning, and was all over the place. Prior to this morning, the Lord had given me several topics to talk about, yet, I could not seem to get it together. I was looking through my old posts to share with you, and it was so crazy that I came across this one. I was trying to convey my thoughts about the same topic after something I experienced last week. I wrote this post in 2016 so you may or may not have read it. If not, it is a new blog post for you. LOL! I am going to add/take-way just a little this morning.
Last week I had the opportunity to work within an outreach program at a church. What the church was doing in their outreach program was great. Some of the people that I met were nice from what I could ascertain within a week’s time. Yet, I could see that there were some things that could be changed in order to make the organization better. One thing that I know is that the ones helping to make an organization grow and thrive should be shown appreciation, not just through actions, but words as well. Just because a person is in a leadership position does not mean that they can speak to individuals in any kind of way. This can cause anger, sadness, and maybe even church hurt. Proverbs 15:1 (NLT) says “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.”
The above mentioned scripture (Romans 12:3) can affect so many areas in your life. Financially, spiritually, mentally, and physically just to name a few. We sometimes forget when we get in certain positions where we came from. We forget that we were once the ones sweeping the floors at the company we now operate and manage. We were once washing dishes at the restaurant we now own. There were people that may have belittled you or talked down to you. They made you feel like you were nothing. You knew how that made you feel. You did not like it. The same goes for anyone else whether they are the janitor or the CEO of a company.
As you are on this journey of life, be mindful of the decisions that you make. Also, be mindful of how you treat people. Jesus had plenty of opportunities where he could have done things to change his situation. He was God of course! Jesus chose to lead His life by being an example. He could have on more than one occasion showed how powerful He was in a negative way.
God is about to open some doors for you that will put you in a position of power. Don’t let that power go to your head. Remember how you felt when others mistreated you when they were over you. Do not ever get to the point where you cannot get your hands dirty because of the position you hold. To gain respect, you have to give respect. Have a Blessed Day!
