Walk the Line with Jesus

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

For the last couple of weeks, I have been going back and forth concerning my financial situation. I’ve applied for jobs with no call backs. I interviewed and got a position, but realized that the leadership was not to my liking. I am again unemployed, but peaceful all the same. I must say during that time I was allowing my finances or lack thereof to get the best of me. A friend of mine had to remind me how blessed I was. How many of you have allowed money or lack thereof to to move you away from God?

When you think about walking a line, many different scenarios may pop up in your mind. Some examples are as a child walking a line, one foot in front of the other, with your hands out to see if you will fall over; walking the line between genres of music which means you almost cannot tell what genre it is; or walking the line between good and evil. When you think of the last example, we will use it as the context of good (God) and evil (money). Scripture does not say that money is evil. It is the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10).

Re-read the above-mentioned scripture. We cannot serve two masters. Yes, money makes the world go around. Yes, we need it to pay bills, put this high gas in our vehicles, buy groceries, etc. God already said he would supply our needs (Philippians 4:19) so why do we doubt. Maybe because we took our eyes off of him. Maybe because we forgot to praise him in the midst of what we have going on in our lives. Maybe because we see others being blessed and have gotten tired of waiting. I do not know your situation.

God loves us. In his word, he said he would never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Do not take your eyes off of God. You will see the rewards if you just wait. Walk the line with Him!
