Guard Your Ear Gates
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
If anyone knows me, they know that family is really important to me. We are very close, and would do anything for each other. A family member said something today that got to me. I cried and called my friend telling them about it. The question they asked me was, “Have you talked to the person about it or are your thoughts causing all this angst? Call them and allow them to clear things up for you. It may not even be that way.” How many times have you just listened to someone without clarifying what was said? How many times have you allowed those same people to change what God has said?
Let’s admit it. We do it all the time. We allow others and ourselves to create a situation that is not even there. We cause ourselves heartache, heartbreak, anger, sadness, or whatever the emotion may be about something that may not even be true. I laid on my couch all afternoon based on what that person said. My friend pointed out that this was the perfect time to write a blog. I did not want to do anything, especially write a blog. I felt like a failure. I started comparing myself to my siblings and all that they were doing in their life. I was like, “Sebrena, you got to get yourself together.” See how the devil started working on my thoughts based on one statement mentioned in jest. I forgot to add that part.
You may not be where you want to be, but I am sure if you take inventory of your life, you are not where you used to be. You are everything that God says about you and more. I am not sure what kind of blog this is, but I wanted to let you know that we all experience the days where doubt and insecurity comes into our life. The way to bring yourself out of it is to do the one thing or things that you do not want to do (i.e. writing a blog). Please read the verse above again. The verse is, of course, one that you have to do daily. We have to believe and walk in it especially when it comes to our thoughts. I pray this blesses you!
