Expecting the Impossible

This morning, before my feet even hit the floor, God put a song in my spirit. “Miracle” by the Clark Sisters. Not the quiet background kind. The kind that sits on your chest and asks a question you can’t dodge. What are you really expecting from God today?

So many of us love God deeply, but we’ve learned to manage our expectations. We pray safe prayers. We hope quietly. We brace ourselves just in case nothing changes. It reminds me of the man at the pool of Bethesda in John 5. Jesus asked him a simple but uncomfortable question: “Do you want to be made well?” He had been waiting so long that disappointment felt more familiar than hope.

Maybe that’s where you are. You believe in Jesus, but you’ve stopped believing for anything big.

You’re the kind of believer who shows up, prays, serves, and tries to do the right thing even when life feels heavy. Your relationship with Jesus matters to you, but lately it’s been shaped more by survival than expectation. Bills, diagnoses, delays, unanswered prayers. All real. All exhausting. And they slowly whisper, “Don’t get your hopes up.”

But faith works differently.

Start here. Expect the impossible. Not because you’re naive, but because God is faithful. Feel the intangible. Trust that God is moving even when you can’t touch the evidence yet. See the invisible. That’s what hope actually is. Then speak it. Believe and receive doesn’t mean you control the outcome. It means you trust the One who does.

When you live like this, something shifts. You still face challenges, but they no longer define what you expect from God. You stop shrinking your prayers. You stop assuming “no” before God speaks. You start waking up with room for miracles again.

This week, try one simple thing. Each morning, ask God: “What are You inviting me to believe for today?” Then refuse to talk yourself out of it.

If you’ve been walking with Jesus a long time, hear this. Growth doesn’t mean you never struggle. It means you keep choosing faith anyway.
