The Rescue After the Disobedience

Have you ever known God was warning you… and you did it anyway?

This morning I was reading 2 Chronicles 17 to 19, and King Jehoshaphat’s story felt uncomfortably familiar. He loved God. He obeyed Him. God blessed him with influence and favor. But then he aligned himself with King Ahab. Yes, that Ahab. Married to Jezebel. Not exactly wise company.

He ignored the prophet’s warning and went into battle anyway. Ahab disguised himself and left Jehoshaphat exposed in royal robes. Translation: he was set up.

When the enemy closed in and death felt certain, Jehoshaphat cried out to God. And God rescued him.

That part stopped me. God rescued him after the disobedience.

You and I know what it’s like to love Jesus and still make choices we have to untangle later. You want to honor Him, but sometimes relationships, opportunities, or pressure cloud your judgment. Your relationship with Christ should shape your alliances and decisions, but the obstacle is real. We want to be liked. We want to win. We want the blessing without the tension of obedience.

Here is the framework Jehoshaphat’s story shows us:

First, discern the alignment. Not every open door is sent by God.
Second, seek confirmation. If something feels off in your spirit, pause.
Third, obey the conviction. Delayed obedience often becomes costly obedience.
Fourth, if you fall, cry out immediately. Do not let pride keep you silent.

When Jehoshaphat cried out, God intervened. Not because he was perfect, but because he was His.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says the Lord goes before you and will not leave you. That promise is steady. But grace is not permission to ignore conviction. Consequences still teach us. Rescue does not erase responsibility.

Growth with God is not about never misstepping. It is about learning to respond faster. Softer. Quicker to repent. Quicker to realign.

This week, ask yourself: Where am I partnered with something God already warned me about? Pray. Listen. Adjust.

God is not waiting to shame you. He is waiting for you to call.

And when you do, He will meet you right in the middle of it.
