Are You Spiritually Nearsighted?

This morning, I was getting ready to study and couldn’t find my glasses. I checked my office, retraced my steps, even looked in places I knew I wouldn’t leave them. After all that searching… they were on my face the whole time.

Go ahead, laugh—but you’ve been there too.

It made me stop and think: how often do we do the same thing with Jesus Christ? We search for peace, purpose, something to fill the gap… while He’s been right in front of us all along.

Glasses exist because our vision needs help. Whether it’s nearsightedness, farsightedness, or just plain strain, sometimes we can’t see clearly without correction. And honestly, our spiritual vision isn’t much different. It gets blurry.

I’ve had seasons where my faith felt clear and steady—like I knew exactly where I stood. And then there are other times… when I’ve drifted, stumbled, or just sat still, unsure of what to do next. But one thing never changed—God didn’t move.

Maybe that’s where you are right now. You love God, but life feels heavy. Things don’t make sense. You’re juggling responsibilities, dealing with disappointment, and somewhere along the way, your focus shifts. You started looking more at what’s missing than at Who’s still present. And before you realize it, you’re searching everywhere… except the place you left Him.

Here’s what I’ve learned: your relationship with Jesus was never meant to depend on perfect clarity. It’s built on connection—even when things feel uncertain.

So when your vision feels off, don’t panic.

Pause for a moment.
Refocus your attention—spend real, intentional time with Him, even if it’s quiet and simple.
Take a step back and ask yourself what’s been pulling your attention away.
And then choose to trust Him, even when you can’t fully see what He’s doing.

Something shifts when you live like that. You stop chasing what you think will make you whole, and you start resting in the One who already does.

Growth takes time. Faith isn’t neat or linear—it’s a process of coming back, readjusting, and realizing you were never as far off as you thought.

So before you go searching for the next answer this week, pause and ask, “God, where have I overlooked You?”

Because maybe what you’ve been looking for… hasn’t been missing at all.
