Because Jesus Said So

⁴ When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” ⁵ “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” ⁶ And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! ⁷ A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. ⁸ When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”

There is a movie I like called, “Because I Said So.”  I would like to give you some context of the movie.  Daphne Wilder (Diane Keeton) plays the divorced mother of three daughters.  Two of her daughters are married, but the youngest one is not.  She does not want her daughter to turn out like her which is alone, so she sets out to fix her up by putting an ad in the paper to find a man.  Her daughter starts dating two men.  Long story short, she finds love with one.  If you have not seen the movie, watch it.  It is a good movie.  Why is the movie called Because I Said So?  It is the premise of the whole movie.  The mom feels like she knows what is best for all of them.  They listen, and do not question their mom because she said so.  Now how does that relate to the title and verse given in this blog?  How many of us question God on an everyday basis when he asks us to do something?    

After Jesus was done teaching, he asked Simon to throw his net back into the water.  Simon responded by saying that they had been fishing all night with no fish to show for it.  He told Jesus; he would do it anyway because Jesus said so.  We know the God that we serve.  We have seen Him make a way time and time again, yet we still question Him when He wants us to do something.  We question God when we go through anything.  As believers of Christ, why can we not trust that it is for our good (Romans 8:28) no matter what it looks like.

When Simon pulled the net up, it was so full of fish that he had to call for help because the boat was about to sink.  Simon did what God asked because God asked.  He trusted him regardless of what he had seen before.  God showed him what happens when he is obedient.  He blessed Simon and the others with so many fish they could barely hold the net together. 

God blesses us regardless of what we do.  Whether it is being obedient or not.  Why?  It is based on who he is, not what we do.  I dare you to do what God has told and or asked you to do.  Why?  Because Jesus Said So.
