Forgiving Yourself
Good Morning. Would I be right in saying that it is easier to forgive others before we forgive ourselves? This is one of the things that I have struggled with during the years. It has taken me over 30 years to forgive myself for things that happened when I was child. Some of those things, I didn’t have control over, but I couldn’t get over them.
We look at our past mistakes and some of our present ones, and we are like, “What were you thinking?” Maybe you were not thinking at that time. You may have been going off feelings and emotions. Those have gotten me into trouble plenty of times. If someone tells you that they haven’t made any bad decisions, they are a story and the truth is not in them.
If God can forgive us for all the mistakes we have done, why can we not forgive ourselves? Micah 7:19 (KJV) says, “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” God says he has cast our sins into the depths of the sea. We should do the same. We should cast our mistakes in the depths of the sea.
You will make many more mistakes as long as you have breath in your body. You’re probably making one now. The goal is not to make the same mistake twice. Forgive yourself and let go of the stronghold that those things have over you. It’s time to move past them. Have a Blessed Day!
