Storms don’t Last Long, You Have to Sit Them Out

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” Romans 5:3-5 (NLT)

Last week we had a storm come through my hometown.  It rained for a while then it stopped.  Later on that evening the bottom dropped out of the sky.  I could not see anything, and the wind was blowing really hard.  I told my children to sit down and turn off all electronics until God finished doing his work.  By the time we woke up the next morning, everything was clear.  The only way you knew there had been a storm was because of the trees down, power outages, and water on the roads.

Some may see storms as bad things because of the damage they can cause.  Yes, sometimes the consequences are dire, but sooner or later everything goes back to a semblance of normal.  That is the way we should see storms in our lives.  Yes, they may cause damage, but we have a God that will help us get through them.  We have to just sit them out.  You may be thinking, “She must not have been through any storms.”  I have.  Too many to count, yet I’m still here.

Sitting and waiting out the storm can be one of the hardest things you do. Yet, if you reflect on all the past storms that you have been through, you made it through.  You will make it through again just like you did before.  You have to trust and believe God’s word during the storms.

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)

Like I always say, “God got you.”
