If You Dig One Ditch, You Better Dig Two

I was studying Esther 6 – 7 (NLT) during my morning meditation which gave me the title for this blog.  I know you have heard the saying, “If you dig one ditch, you better dig two. The ditch you dig may be for you.”  This story is a perfect example of this saying.  During the reign of King Xerxes, two individuals plotted to kill him.  They did not succeed because of Mordecai.  The king asked his attendants was Mordecai ever rewarded or recognized for this in which they responded no.

The King did not know that during this time Haman was plotting to kill Mordecai because he did not give him the recognition that he wanted.  Queen Esther knew what was going on.  She requested that the King spare her along with her people from being killed.  The King asked who would plot such a thing (I’m paraphrasing).  She replied, “Haman.”   One of the chamberlains told the King of the spike made for Mordecai.  Haman was hung from the very spike he prepared.

I say all the time that God knows and sees all.  Just like God works behind the scenes for you, he does that for others as well.  What God has for you is for you.  You do not have to be underhanded to get what is already yours.  You just have to be patient.  I know that they talked ill about you behind your back.  I know the promotion that was for you were taken away for reasons that seem unfair.  I do not know what that situation may have been, but you know.  Ask God to help you forgive.  Scriptures says, “Vengeance is the Lord’s.”  You do not have to pay anyone back.  It is already done.
