Classic Mix
If you know me, you know I love snacks. Chips, cookies, mixed nuts—you name it. One thing I’ve noticed about those snack boxes is that they always seem to have some of what I want and a lot of what I don’t. I pick through the bag looking for my favorites while avoiding the pieces I could do without.
Have you ever thought about how much that sounds like life?
The world is filled with different personalities, perspectives, and ways of doing things. Some people are easy for us to connect with, while others can rub us the wrong way. But here’s a question worth considering: What if the people you struggle to appreciate are part of God’s design too?
When I think about this, I’m reminded of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12. Paul teaches that every part of the body serves a purpose. The eye can’t be the hand, and the hand can’t be the foot. Each part is different, yet each part matters. God never intended for us all to think alike, act alike, or contribute in the same way.
As believers, we’re constantly learning how to love people who are different from us. Our relationship with Jesus challenges us to see others through His eyes instead of through our personal preferences. The obstacle is that our flesh often wants comfort and familiarity. We naturally gravitate toward people who think, speak, and act like us.
But Scripture gives us a framework. First, recognize that every person is created by God. Second, respect the value God placed on them. Third, look for their purpose instead of focusing on their personality. Finally, choose grace when differences create friction.
When we apply these principles, our perspective begins to change. Instead of seeing people as annoyances, we start seeing them as individuals carrying gifts, experiences, and purposes that God can use. We become more patient, more understanding, and more united in the body of Christ.
Remember, growth is a lifelong journey. God is continually teaching us how to love, serve, and value others the way He does.
This week, take a moment to pray for someone whose personality is different from yours. Ask God to help you see them through His eyes.
After all, the same chips you don’t like are someone else’s favorite. The same person you struggle to understand may be exactly who God wants to use in a powerful way. We are all part of His Classic Mix—and every piece has a purpose.
