Hidden Figures
I was watching Hidden Figures for about the 3rd time the other day. Every time I watch it, I am so glad that God chooses to recognize us when man does not. There were three important figures that played a big role within that movie. Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae). The ladies mentioned in the movie were hidden until the Lord felt it was time to bring them to the light. They had to endure certain things, but the impact they made caused a movie to be made and their contributions to be forever written in history.
There are hidden figures walking among us today. Are they recognized? No. Does anyone know what they do on a regular basis? No. They just do what they consider right. So who are these people not? I’m glad you asked. They do not contribute loads of money to charities. They do not do mission work in other countries. They may not even go to church every Sunday. I know that last one got you. Why? Because society has us to believe that certain things and people have to look a certain way. What better example of a hidden figure than Jesus himself? He did not look like anyone we would consider as having an impact on our lives. Jesus was poor and God did not put Him in the eye of the public until he was 33 years old, yet He had been doing God’s work the entire time.
So who are the hidden figures? They are the ones that smile when it seems like you are having a hard day. They are the ones that open the door for you. They are the ones that will pray and encourage you. They are the ones that if Sallie Mae down the street needs food, they will take them food from their house to feed them. They are the ones that ask for nothing, but are willing to give everything. You know these people because either A. you are one or B. you have encountered them or encounter them daily. WOW! You never knew you were a hidden figure. I am glad to help you today.
I need to make this disclaimer as a hidden figure. You may never get the recognition as someone that makes an impact on someone else. You may never get a movie made about your life. You may never get a Thank You for all that you do. DO NOT let that deter you from doing what is right. We are all parts of God’s kingdom. Romans 12:4-5 (NIV) says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” What does this mean as it relates to my message today? God uses all of us to build up the kingdom he has reserved for us. We all have to do our part to make sure the unbelievers see God through us daily. Be the hidden figure. God sees and he will reward you.
