Are You In or Out?
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” Matthew 6:24 (NLT)
When I was in elementary school, I was on the Double Dutch team. If you are unfamiliar with Double Dutch, it is when you jump rope with two ropes. There is a person at each end. Of course, it is different, but so much fun. Sometimes you and another person on your team would take turns jumping in and out at different times. We sometimes stayed in together depending on what skills we were trying to showcase. How often do we choose to leave Jesus inside the ropes because we cannot endure the challenges that come with staying in with him?
Society has placed great importance on materialistic things. They have gone as far as to categorize us. The categories include upper class, middle class, and poor. Our children bully each other based on how they look, how they dress, what they have. Treating each other this way can change the trajectory of our lives. Either we will stay in the mindset that society has placed on us or we will come out. What does that mean? We will strive for better in our lives or we will believe what society says about us.
We all know that life comes with it challenges. There are seasons were we feel like there is no relief coming whatsoever. I would venture to say that we all have things that trigger doubt, unbelief, etc. within us. Finances are a trigger for me. If the devil wants to get me, all he has to do is mess with my money or lack thereof. It will cause me to shut all the way down. I know this so when things happen I have to remember what God says in his word. Philippians 4:19 (KJV) says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Please do not place all your focus on money. Job had everything. In one day, he lost it all. He said, “the Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away (Job 1:21). You can have it all one day, and lose it the next. Trust Jesus. No matter what it looks like, stay in the ropes with Jesus. It will not always be like this.
