Use Your Gifts
Good Evening. Today, God gave me an opportunity to use one of my gifts. The reason why I said he gave me an opportunity is because James 1:7 (NIV) says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” For all that don’t know, I can sing. Being a preacher’s kid growing up, afforded me a lot of opportunities to sing. The older I got, the less I did it.
A lot of us are like that today. God has given us a gift or multiple gifts, yet we choose not to use them for whatever reason. That brought to my remembrance The Parable of the Talents. When you get a chance, please go read the story in Matthew 25: 14-30. Some of us are just like the servant with the one talent. We would rather dig a hole in the ground and bury it rather than use our talent for the upbuilding of his kingdom. The reason I can say that is because I have done it. For years, I wouldn’t sing. Anytime I was asked, the answer was no. Just wanted you know that I’m not throwing rocks and hiding my hands.
What has God asked you to do for the upbuilding of his kingdom? Let me put this out there. It does not always have to be in church either. He may have asked you to start a mentoring program within your community. God may have asked you to start a nonprofit to help the elderly. Maybe it’s a project on the job that would not only help you, but others as well. I don’t know what that looks like for you. Be obedient to what God has asked of you. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Have a Blessed Evening!
