You are Someone’s Hope
Good Afternoon. Even though you may not know what it is, there is a purpose for you on earth. A reason you still walk among the living. When you wake up in the morning, you never know how you may affect someone else’s day. It could be with a smile, a kind word, a negative word, or maybe an indifferent attitude all together.
In 1 Samuel 9, Saul and a servant were sent to find donkeys that were lost. They ended up in Ramah where Samuel, God’s prophet, resided after the Philistine battle. They asked the townspeople for him, and found him as they entered the city’s gates. Please read the passage of scripture for full details when you can. Fast forwarded to verse 20-21, “And don’t worry about those donkeys that were lost three days ago, for they have been found. And I am here to tell you that you and your family are the focus of all Israel’s hopes.” Saul replied, “But I’m only from the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest tribe in Israel, and my family is the least important of all the families of that tribe! Why are you talking like this to me?”
Saul went to the city for one reason, to find the donkeys. Only to find out his purpose was so much bigger than that. God leads us to places or situations with a purpose only known by him. If you have time to reflect for a moment, I’m pretty sure you can think of sometimes. This life we live is really not ours. It belongs to God. He uses our life; the good, the bad, and they ugly to give others hope as they are going through.
I wonder was that daunting to Saul when Samuel spoke those things to him. If I was Saul, my thought process would have gone something like this, “I only came here to find some donkeys and go home. This is not what I was expecting. Do I even want that?” In verse 21, Saul stated that the tribe of Benjamin was the smallest tribe and least important of all the tribes. In other words, shouldn’t Samuel be talking to someone with a better social status? We believe because of various factors in our life, mostly negative things, we cannot do what God has called us to do. What better person than you? Your story can possibly be the help someone needs in order to get through.
Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, whether you choose to continue to run from what God is calling you to do, it doesn’t change your purpose. I know because I’m a perfect example. What God purposed for your life will come to pass. It can be voluntarily or involuntarily. It’s up to you. You are someone’s hope. Never forget that. Even when you are struggling.
