Prayed Up
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
Oftentimes in our lives we are faced with so much. It can sometimes be overwhelming if we loose focus on the one that can bring us through. I did hear back from the individual that I mentioned on last week in reference to a particular job I was interested in. The former employee came back, and the position is no longer available. When I tell you that I didn’t feel anything, but peace. But God!
Let’s go back to the above-mentioned scripture. The first part of verse 6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication.” Everything we need and want, God has it. We have to trust that once we pray about it, he’ll do that which he promised. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” God also reminds us in Matthew 6:25-26 with these words, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” I had already prayed to God to close that door if that job wasn’t for me. He did just that. When we pray, we have to believe if that what we’ve prayed for will come to pass.
“With thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” This is the second part of verse 6. We should wake up each and every morning with an expression of gratitude to God, which is the definition of thanksgiving. How awesome is our God! Acts 17:28 (NKJV) says, “for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ We are his children, and he loves us. Our needs are already taken care of as I mentioned earlier. Why shouldn’t we go to him asking for those things that we desire? I recall an old saying, “Closed mouths don’t get fed.” If you never ask, how do you know he won’t do it for you? Hello Somebody! Even though God already knows what’s in our hearts, he wants us to come to him. He wants us to talk to him on a daily basis about the good, bad, and the ugly in our lives. God wants to hear about our visions and dreams. He loves to see us happy, and to prosper. Don’t be afraid to ask, but thank him in advance that it’s already done.
I’m in a place in my life where if peace doesn’t abound, I can’t deal. For me that’s a choice. The world is filled with so much negativity as it is. I try to avoid it as much as possible when it comes to my personal life. Verse 7 says, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Peace is defined as freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. Earlier I told you I had peace even when I found out that the position was already filled. Why the peace? The peace came from doing what verse 6 said. I prayed. I gave thanks while making my requests to him, even with the possibility that the job would not be mine. Do I need more income? Yes! Do I believe that God is my source, and he will provide for me even in the midst? Yes! I have that understanding, that’s why I have his peace. Today go to God, seeking that which he promises us. While you’re waiting, he will give you that peace which passes all understanding.
